Providing food assistance ,encouragement and hope to families
A young mother with children recently sought assistance from our pantry. As a dedicated single mother working as a security guard, she tirelessly puts in 50 weekly hours to support her family. Her teenage son plays a vital role by caring for his younger siblings and helping with household chores like cleaning and laundry.
At first, she felt a deep shame for needing pantry services and food assistance.
However, she and her family have come to profoundly appreciate the support, which has provided them with hundreds of dollars worth of nutritious food in two months.
The help from the Brooklyn Rescue Mission Urban Harvest Center (BRMUHC) has lifted a significant burden from her shoulders, allowing her to concentrate on her family's well-being and their future.
Our innovative appointment-based pantry system is making a remarkable impact.
One of our senior guests expressed heartfelt gratitude for the one-month appointment service, sharing that it significantly reduced her anxiety about navigating crowded spaces. With a scheduled visit, she can select double the food she needs, ensuring that her pantry is well-stocked for more extended periods.
Since its inception in 2004,
the Brooklyn Rescue Mission Urban Harvest Center has been unwavering in its mission to combat hunger, delivering over three million meals to New Yorkers in need. Together, we can continue to make a meaningful difference in the lives of families and individuals facing food insecurity.
